114. Replacing the Control Lever
It has been a
frustrating month waiting for some large timbers for the side coaming,
which have not yet arrived, so work on the boat has all but stalled. I
have taken the opportunity to replace the throttle control lever with a
version with a brake, as I was concerned that the weight of the old one
would have been enough to move the throttle on the pot box, which has
virtually no frictional resistance.
The new one is almost the same as the old, but sports a plastic collar
around the base of the lever, which is detented into the flange through
which the lever extends. A captured screw in the collar is tightened to
the desired friction and the lever stays put.

Showing the new lever with the black brake.
The old lever is now available to go
on the Bugatti, which has received a bit of
attention while the boat is held up.
